In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, safety is on my mind and, with Halloween being tomorrow evening, I wanted to share some Halloween safety tips.
- As shocking as it may sound, 12% of children aged 5 or younger are permitted to trick-or-treat alone. Please trick-or-treat with an adult or someone at least 12 years old.
- Trick-or-treat in well lit, familiar areas.
- Cross streets at corners using traffic signals if possible, look carefully both ways before crossing and don’t run.
- Always walk on sidewalks or paths. If there are not sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the side as possible.
- Wear light-colored costumes and, especially if you are wearing a dark costume, consider decorating it with retro-reflective tape or stickers.
- Bring along a flashlight or glow stick to increase your visibility to drivers.
