Honor Star ProgramThe Grade Star Program is in place to reward students for their hard work in school and to motivate students to achieve academic excellence.
Academic Achievement
Students who earn straight A’s (or the equivalent) for an entire school year are presented with an Academic Achievement Patch which should be sewn to their uniform’s sleeve.
Gold Star
Students with straight A’s (or the equivalent) are presented a Gold Star which should be sewn to their uniform’s lapel.
Silver Star
Students with A’s and B’s (or equivalent) are presented a Silver Star which should be sewn to their uniform’s lapel. The student’s next report card must show improvement to receive another star.
Self-Discipline Cards
Self-discipline cards are designed to give students recognition for demonstrating self-discipline at home. For each act of self-discipline, the card should be initialed by the student’s parents. Once a block of ten acts of self-discipline is completed, bring the card to class and the student will receive either a Self-Discipline Stripe for his belt for our Terrific Tigers, Rising Kids and Children Class students or a “Bannister Buck” for our Youth Class students, which can be used towards merchandise in the lobby. In addition to praise received in class and stripes on their belts, Terrific Tigers, Rising Kids and Children Class students who complete at least one full Self-Discipline Card will, at their belt test, receive a medal recognizing their achievement.
Book Club Cards
Book club cards are designed to encourage students to read more outside of school. Every time the student reads for 15-20 minutes, not including homework, the student’s parents should initial a block on the card. Once a block of ten is completed, bring the card to class and the student will receive either a Great Effort Stripe for his belt for our Terrific Tigers, Rising Kids and Children Class students or a “Bannister Buck” for our Youth Class students, which can be used towards merchandise in the lobby. In addition to praise in class and stripes on their belts, Terrific Tigers, Rising Kids and Children Class students who complete at least one whole Book Club Card will receive a medal recognizing their achievement.
Homework Cards
Homework cards are designed to motivate students to practice their Martial Arts skills at home. Students should only practice in safe, parent approved areas when practicing at home to prevent injury and to avoid accidentally breaking valuables. Once a block of ten is completed, bring the card to class, and you will receive either a Sharp Technique Stripe for our Terrific Tigers, Rising Kids and Children Class students or a “Bannister Buck” for our Youth Class students, which can be used towards merchandise in the lobby.
Power Stripes
In addition to Self-Discipline, Book Club and, Homework Card Stripes, students are also eligible to earn Power Stripes. A Power Stripe is awarded to students who demonstrate an unusually high level of effort and enthusiasm in class.
Stripe Awards
In addition to praise received in class and stripes on their belts, Terrific Tigers and Children Class students who complete at least one Self-Discipline Card are eligible for a stripe award at their belt test. The student with the most stripes, including Book Club, Self-Discipline, Power, and Karate Homework stripes, in each class will receive a large medal and recognition of their accomplishment.
