Quest Martial Arts Student Resources

Membership Hold Policy

At Quest Martial Arts, we believe that breaks from training should be a last resort, not the automatic “go to.”

Consistency is one of the most important factors for progress in martial arts.

Hapkido training is cumulative, much like subjects in school. When students attend inconsistently or take extended breaks, they often lose momentum. In most cases when they return from a prolonged break, students don’t move forward—they end up reviewing old material just to get back to where they were before.

We also see that returning after a long time away can be discouraging. It’s difficult to come back and feel behind your peers or struggle with material that once felt comfortable.

Our goal is to help every student build confidence, make steady progress, and develop the habits that lead to long-term success.
If a break from training is unavoidable, here’s how we handle membership holds.

Hold Policy

  • Holds will extend your membership:  Tuition continues during a hold, and that time is added to the end of your membership at no additional cost.
  • Maximum of 3 months of holds per year:  This allows flexibility for situations like seasonal sports while still encouraging consistent training.
  • Holds are taken in 1-month increments:  This aligns with our monthly belt testing cycle.
  • Exceptions when truly needed:  We will always make case-by-case exceptions for serious injury or illness.

Our Recommendation

If life gets busy, we strongly encourage students to scale back rather than stop completely.

Even attending once per week helps maintain skills, retain progress, and makes it much easier to continue long-term.

Additionally, if you do miss classes, students are always welcome to make up missed time by attending extra classes when their schedule allows. In many cases, this is a better option than taking extended time away, as it helps students stay consistent and continue progressing.

In martial arts, progress doesn’t come from occasional effort—it comes from steady, consistent practice over time.

Consistency Breeds Success

Our hold policy is not about limiting flexibility—it’s about helping our students succeed.

Consistency builds skill, confidence, and the ability to follow through on long-term goals. These are some of the most valuable benefits martial arts has to offer both in and outside the dojang, and they can only be developed through regular training.

If training becomes challenging due to scheduling, please talk with us—we’re always happy to help you find a plan that works.
